About John Robert Keller:

Drawing on a deep-seated fascination with how technology functions, John Keller has built a distinguished career spanning decades, from the early days of personal computing to modern Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning applications.

Career highlights

Early Foundations:

The technology journey began with early, hands-on experience in electronics and computer architecture. By age 14, John had already designed and constructed a personal computer system based on the Zilog Z80 microprocessor.

Initial Industry Roles:

The professional career was launched at Xerox, where responsibilities focused on maintaining and repairing copiers and early word processing systems. This was followed by a role at Tandy, where John was instrumental in transitioning reporting systems from analog to digital formats. This role also involved designing and programming Automatic Test Equipment to ensure the quality of manufactured computer systems.

Specialized Hardware Design:

With WinSystems, John advanced into hardware design, specializing in industrially hardened PC motherboards. John earned

Mobile and IoT Innovation:

NEC:

Over six years, John Keller designed cellular phones, mentored junior engineers, and managed relationships with Japanese subcontractors.

AvidWireless:

Joined AvidWireless for two separate tenures, focusing on M2M (now IoT) technologies. The work involved designing and programming bare-metal code for a range of devices, from GPS trackers to network-distributed industrial controls.

Large Language Models and Medical Devices:

The career path also included a role at Intelang, where work focused on large language models in the period before mainstream adoption, and a brief engagement with bioMerieux, where firmware was designed for medical devices.

Leadership at 7-Eleven:

Joining the 7Next R&D subsidiary of 7-Eleven as a Senior Engineer, John Keller quickly rose to the level of Staff Engineer - Technical Lead. This progression culminated in a management position leading two distinct teams of four engineers. The first team developed vending drop safes, and the second was responsible for developing sensor technology and LoRaWAN networks for in-store applications.
